Fee Information

  1. Fee information: You will normally be given a fixed fee in writing (by email) prior to your appointment. In cases where our fee is to be charged by reference to time, the applicable hourly rate will be given to you in writing, together with a fee estimate, prior to the appointment. At the same time, you will be given notice of any sums anticipated to be incurred as disbursements. This business is not currently registered with HMRC for VAT purposes.
  2. Service information: The primary service to be provided is the notarisation of your documentation for use abroad. Where applicable, at your request (but not otherwise), the notarised document will be sent for legalisation on your behalf, with instructions given as to where the legalized document should be returned. The general terms and conditions of retainer below apply.
  3. Complaints and Redress information: The below complaints procedure applies. The sum currently insured under the applicable professional indemnity insurance policy is one million pounds sterling.

If you have complaints about my notarial work, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. If the matter cannot be resolved promptly, your complaint will be forwarded to the Notaries Society, of which I am a member. This body has a Complaints Procedure which is approved by the Faculty Office. Alternatively, you can complain to the Notaries Society direct. In this event, please write (but do not enclose any original documents) with full details of your complaint to: The Secretary of the Notaries Society, Old Church Chambers, 23 Sandhill Road, St James. Finally, even if you have your complaint considered under the Notaries Society Approved Complaints Procedure, you may at the end of that procedure, or after a period of eight weeks from the date of making the complaint to me, make your complaint direct to the Legal Ombudsman, if the matter has not been resolved to your satisfaction**. Notarial Terms and Conditions of Retainer

  1. The notary will witness your signature and affix his seal of office at his sole discretion.
  2. If the notary prepares any documents, he will rely on the information you give him. You are responsible for any errors and omissions in that information.
  3. You confirm that you have read and understood all the documents that the notary will sign and that, where you sign documents, by signing them you intend to give them legal effect.
  4. You acknowledge that the notary is acting as a witness only: the notary is not a party to any transaction: the notary accepts no legal responsibility or otherwise whatsoever for any delays, loss, omissions, costs, claims or damages arising out of his notarisation or subsequent legalisation of any documents.
  5. You verify that all documents and the facts contained in them are true and authentic and are not made as part of or as a plan for any Illegal act against the laws of any country in the world.
  6. You understand that the notary must make and keep copies of the relevant pages of your passport and other identification and may keep copies of notarised and supporting documents. You give your permission for him to do so. This copied information is not disclosed any other parties, save as permitted or required by applicable laws and regulations.
  7. You accept that if you require the notary to forward or email any documents after notarisation then this will be at your sole risk.
